A step back in time , to the movie theaters

If you know me then you know how much i adore old buildings and places that feel like they haven't changed in fifty years . Saturday night me and my best friend decided to go see dark shadows at the movies. While looking online i found a place 5 min from my house for $5.75 yes $5.75 lol and it wasn't the afternoon either. It's called Cedar Lane Cinemas in Teaneck NJ. So we headed for the 10 o clock show. Walking up to the place i knew this place was around for awhile it opened in 1939. We walked into the place and it looks like it hasn't changed much since then and when we walked into the theater there was an old man playing the organ! amazing! lol

Sadly it was late and I didn't think to snap any pics till we were on the way out so I only have one.

I wish there were more places like this around here. What about you does anyone have any local places like this to share?

Oh p.s despite the bad reviews i read on dark shadows we really enjoyed it although there were some parts that should have been cut out lol

Mini Bar Inspiration

I'm my moms interior decorator for her new living room dining room and kitchen I can't wait to show everyone when its done and I'm going to have lots of diy projects along the way. One thing she mentioned and I love the idea was having a mini bar in the dining room for entertaining. Since she doesn't have the room i suggested a vintage inspired bar cart. I found some of these great inspiration on pinterest. Were on a quest for the ones with the wheels and on a budget so I'm going to be checking flea markets, thrift shops and estate sales all this summer trying to find one lol.

California Dreaming

Hey Kittens! I don't know if any of you know this but I went to college in California for 2 years. I wanted to do a few post on my favorite things and places so this is my first post. My first year of school I lived in Long Beach. I really loved it there we weren't in the nicest area of Long Beach but me and my roommate had so much fun. I got paired with this crazy amazing girl from Texas she really brought me out of my shell. Anywhooo

First off if you ever in Long Beach you need to go to Jerrys donuts its on E pacific coast highway . Its open 24 hours and they make fresh donuts and the real classic kind they are amazing! The guy who owned it was so nice and would ice donuts with tons of sprinkles at 3 am lol. Theres also a little Mexican joint next to it that has the best nachos.

One of my favorite spots to go to was what i would call a little shopping village called shoreline village . They have cute little shops and restaurants i mean look how adorable that place is.

I wish i would have had a good camera when i lived there because i have absolutely no pictures from when I was there . I miss California from time to time something will remind me of it, I need to take a trip out there soon. I would always say on a sunny day in California there is no excuse to be unhappy lol.

Anybody have any fav places there you wanna share leave a comment I'll save the rest for more posts.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review and Recipe Coconut Cupcakes

I recently was sent a jar of  gold label virgin coconut oil from Tropical Traditions to try out. I have actually never used coconut oil before . I love coconut so I was really excited for this. When i got the jar i was surprised how big the jar was lol normally you get something mini to try out . They even come in buckets for those of you who own bakeries or restaurants. The constancy was unexpected , when i heard oil i thought it would be liquid form but it was solid. I heard you can melt it in the microwave . It smelled really good so it was time to try it out and bake with it.
I went with a classic coconut cupcake and added a twist with white chocolate and raspberry frosting.

White Chocolate Coconut Cupcakes with Raspberry frosting

Makes about 24

1/2 cup of unsalted butter
1/2 cup of tropical traditions gold label virgin coconut oil
1 cup of sugar
2 tbsp of white chocolate extract ( i didn't have any white chocolate on hand )
2 tbsp of milk
1 tbsp of vanilla extract
4 eggs
2 cups of self rising flour

Beat butter sugar and eggs, then add vanilla, coconut oil,and white chocolate extract. Beat in flour on low one cup at a time adding a tbsp of milk for each cup .
Fill cupcake liners bake at 350 for 15 min or till toothpick comes out clean
Let cool

While cooling make the frosting
1 stick of unsalted butter
8 oz of cream cheese
1/4 cup of fresh raspberries or  or raspberry jam you can substitute with  1 tbsp raspberry extract also
pinch of salt
3-4 cups of confection sugar
Beat softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl beat in raspberries then sugar one cup at a time on low. add in pinch of salt. You can add pink food coloring like i did on mine if you want them more vibrant

The result yumm!!
I had my aunt the resident coconut lover try them as well , they were really good and had more of a real coconut flavor to it then when you use extract in coconut cupcakes. The one thing i would add as an afterthought would be to melt the oil before mixing it into the extract it will make the cupcakes more moist.

Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

I will be posting a giveaway of one of these jars very soon so keep a look out!

Fun Ways to Present Cupcakes

Fun Ways to Present Cupcakes

Whether for a birthday, bake sale, holiday party, or even wedding, cupcakes can be a cute and super easy treat to bring. If you don't want your cupcakes looking like everyone else's, check out some of these fun new ways to display your creation and make it stand out from the crowd:
  • Cupcake Tree – Created out of a variety of materials and shapes, a cupcake tree or tower can be a great way to display your creation. This has become so popular, that some couples are even using this idea to replace the old tier cake for weddings. If you like this theme, but want to keep an element of tradition, try one of the new tower designs that lets you put a small cake on top and several layers of cupcakes underneath.
  • Stuffed Cupcakes – Make breakfast cupcakes with a donut inside, or bake a heart into a cupcake for Valentine's Day or a Cadbury egg into a cupcake for Easter. Other tasty ideas include putting a candy bar or brownie into a cupcake or putting some Nerds candies inside for a fun surprise. For more great stuffing ideas, check out the Bake It In A Cake! blog or some of the other creative cupcake blog ideas on this Cupcake Blogs list.
  • Ice Cream Cone – For a delicious idea for birthdays and other casual events, ice cream cone cupcakes can be a delicious way to avoid the sloppiness of the traditional ice cream sundae. To make displaying these creations easier, make sure to buy the big flat-bottom ice cream cones.
  • Lollipops – A new trend in cupcake design, cake pops can be made from scratch or from your favorite cake mix. Besides cake and frosting, you will also need some lollipop sticks, candy melts, Styrofoam to stand the pops up in, and some sprinkles, food coloring, or other decorations. Simply bake a cake, mix it with some frosting, roll it in balls, top with a candy coating, and then decorate. Or, for an easy shortcut, try starting with some donut holes and then decorate into your favorite animal or cartoon character.
  • Bouquet – Decorate cupcakes with a variety of flower top, then put on a platter, basket or cupcake stand for an edible bouquet. For a twist on this idea, try making cake pop flowers and present this bouquet on your Styrofoam stand. This would make a great present or a conversation-starting centerpiece.
  • Themed Cupcakes – If you want to make something unique but would like to stick with the regular cupcake pattern, try decorating them with a sports, holiday or seasonal theme. For a birthday party or movie release party, make Harry Potter, Spider-Man, or superhero-themed baked goods to hand out to your hungry guests.
If you like these ideas and would like to learn more, take some classes at online cooking schools and impress all your guests with your newfound skills.
